NETGEAR Makes Business Wireless LAN Deployment Easy, Flexible, Affordable With Industry's First Power-Over-Ethernet Desktop Switch And PoE Enabled Access Point
Combination of NETGEAR ProSafe™ 802.11g Wireless Access Point (WG102) and ProSafe 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch with 4 Port Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) (FS108P) Provides Fast, Easy Deployment of a Centrally Managed Wireless LAN
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – November 29, 2004 – NETGEAR, Inc., (Nasdaq: NTGR) a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced the launch of the ProSafe 8 Port 10/100 Desktop Switch with 4 Port Power-Over-Ethernet (FS108P), the industry’s first desktop switch with IEEE 802.3af PoE capability, and the ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point (WG102), a PoE enabled IEEE 802.11g-compliant access point supporting NETGEAR 108 Mbps mode. Deployed together in a growing small business environment, the ProSafe Access Point and ProSafe Desktop Switch with PoE combine to deliver a compact and affordable wireless LAN (WLAN) solution. By utilizing Power over Ethernet, this solution eliminates the need to place wireless access points near a power outlet or pay to install new power outlets to ensure optimum placement of the wireless connection.
NETGEAR’s ProSafe 8 Port Desktop Switch with PoE (FS108P) can power up to four IEEE 802.3af-compliant IP-based devices such as wireless access points, Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones, surveillance cameras, and card scanners, while maintaining connectivity to standard 10/100 Mbps devices. Easy to install and use, this new Desktop PoE switch can provide power for up to four ProSafe Access Points (WG102) enabling the flexibility to place these access points high on walls or in ceilings where AC power is difficult to access.
Compatible with NETGEAR 108 Mbps mode utilizing Super G™ technology from Atheros®, the value-packed ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point (WG102) provides a host of features designed to support the demanding networking requirements of growing businesses. While the integrated Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) supports ease of placement and deployment in even the most challenging office environments, the Wi-Fi certified access point features SNMP for management, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA-Enterprise) and is 802.11i-ready. Fully compatible with IEEE 802.11g, (2.4 GHz), it can also be set for dynamic 108 Mbps 802.11g. The flexible, high-performance ProSafe Access Point includes a detachable 5dBi antenna, is plenum-rated and supports repeater and bridge modes.
“We’re excited to be the first in the industry to deliver an affordable PoE-enabled wireless LAN solution to the growing small business sector,” explained Kevin Allan, NETGEAR Director of Product Marketing – Business Products. “Until now, PoE technology was simply beyond the budget of small companies, effectively excluding them from being able to take advantage of the cost-saving benefits of PoE-compliant devices. The wireless solution created by the combined deployment of the ProSafe Desktop Switch with PoE and ProSafe Access Point provides growing companies with the ability to add a wireless LAN to the existing network infrastructure quickly and easily.”
