Wireless gets ambitious (5/24/2007)
Thursday's Blogger for a Day contest winner:
I just finished setting up a network in which I needed NAS storage for 10 computers, and access to DMA for presentations and streaming files from the NAS/media server. The networking went fairly straight- forward. I used a Netgear router WNR854T with 4 GigE ports and 802.11n, an 8 port GigE switch, and a Netgear EVA-700 for the DMA. The biggest issue I had was to stream HD through the wireless link. This did not work, and I had to route an ethernet connection to the box for the file to stream without halting. I would love to see a DMA device that has 802.11n access to allow the QOS and streaming / throughput for true HD content. Combining the NAS/Media server with the Gateway/Router function would be a great enhancement to small SMB opportunities, adding TR-069/WT-140 for remote access would let IT people remotely manage the media server. Thanks!
