At CES, Size Matters (01/09/2007 2:00 PM)

This is the first in a multi-part post on how companies are trying to get my attention here at CES. As I mentioned yesterday, this show is HUGE. We’re talking 1.7 million square feet, 2,700 exhibitors, and an estimated 140,000 attendees. So how do exhibitors catch the attention of their peers, the press, various analysts, and ultimately consumers? Go big!

Some are selling large products or have created large prototypes, while others have brought in large props and large people. I’ve seen several performers on stilts and I could have seen an NBA player (his name escapes me, I’m here for tech!) if I waited until he returned from lunch.

When I stumbled across the 102” flat panel TV I was astounded, so I pushed my way through the crowd for a picture. Perhaps you can tell from my expression that my infatuation quickly waned. Good thing the next booth over had a 108” TV! They say it’s the world’s largest and there’s no telling how much these things cost, but I’m willing to bet it’s out of my price range. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky in slots.
