The Event
The French NETGEAR AV team participated in a remarkable ProAV event last weekend. Algam Salon édition 2024 in Nantes from 24 – 26 March. Algam started doing business with NETGEAR only 2 years ago and they are already the number one AV distribution partner in France.
The Proceedings
With 53 years of tradition in the AV business, Algam has a great history and its flamboyant founder Gérard Garnier shared a great story on stage on Sunday night.
SHURE Inc. thanked him for 20 years of business with a golden replica of Elvis Presley’s microphone. There are only three of these in the world. One is in a Shure museum, the other is in the Shure family estate and the third is on Gérard’s desk.
Gérard likes to say with a proud smile he started in the music industry with only one thing: a Black & Decker drill! He began drilling wooden flutes in 1971 and soon expanded to 50 employees. Wholesale and importing became a large part of the Algam business in the early 1970s. He even had the distribution rights to Calloway Big Bertha golf clubs, but the audio business was, and is, his passion. Today ALGAM is a $300M multinational operation with Gérard’s son Benjamin at the helm.
