NETGEAR Receives CableLabs® DOCSIS 3.0® and Cable Europe Labs EuroDOCSIS 3.0™ Certifications for Industry’s First Voice and Data Gateways with Concurrent Dual Band WiFi

CableLabs/Cable Europe Labs-Certified DOCSIS 3.0 / EuroDOCSIS 3.0 Gateways Enhance Cable Providers Service with Concurrent Dual Band Wireless

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – January 9, 2012 — NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR),a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, today announced that its high-performance DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 N750 Voice/Data Gateways with concurrent dual band wireless are the first to receive certification from CableLabs® and Cable Europe Labs for the modems contained in these gateway devices. With these products, service providers can now use a 5GHz band for IP video, teleconferencing and other real-time applications for home and small business networking while concurrently delivering service to existing 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n devices.

The NETGEAR CGD3700B/CGE3700B is the industry’s first concurrent dual band WiFi cable gateway to receive modem certifications for both DOCSIS 3.0 from CableLabs and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 from Cable Europe Labs. The NETGEAR CGD3700T is the first model of its kind based on the Intel chip set to receive DOCSIS 3.0 modem certification from CableLabs. Cable Europe Labs and CableLabs develop industry specifications and conduct product certification, among other activities.

With these products, NETGEAR is also the first company to provide a choice of Broadcom or Intel based DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 modems with concurrent dual band gateways to North American and European Multiple System Operators. This demonstrates the company’s continued leadership in offering next-generation DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 gateway devices for consumers and businesses with advanced WiFi performance.

“Certifications from these industry standards organizations are key to ensuring that service providers’ high standards and performance requirements are achieved,” says Jeff Heynan, Directing Analyst, Broadband Access and Video for international market research firm Infonetics. “Offering the first certified modems that also have these distinctions shows an ongoing focus by NETGEAR on providing innovative, high-performance, standards-based products for service providers and other customers.”

Concurrent WiFi for Improved Service
The NETGEAR DOCSIS 3.0 / EuroDOCSIS 3.0 Concurrent Dual Band WiFi Gateways respond to the exponential growth in Internet traffic and wireless-enabled devices, including TVs, set-top boxes, gaming consoles, smartphones and tablets. Widespread use of these devices is saturating the limited WiFi channel and spectrum capacity at 2.4GHz, according to Naveen Chhangani, Senior Product Line Manager, Service Provider Business Unit, NETGEAR.

“By adding concurrent 5GHz WiFi, with its 450 Mbps in the 5GHz spectrum, users can now benefit from smooth media streaming, high-performance gaming, enhanced WiFi coverage and higher quality of service, all with reduced interference, as is the case with 2.4GHz devices,” said Chhangani.

With these innovative products, service providers and their customers will continue to benefit from the NETGEAR commitment to performance and quality and the company’s unmatched expertise in Wireless-N750 technology.

“We’re very pleased to again lead the market to higher performance and a better customer experience with the addition of these new DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway modems that also have concurrent dual band,” Chhangani added. “These complement our router products and are supported by the full range of NETGEAR WiFi client adaptors for Internet-enabled devices.”

Among other advanced features, the NETGEAR CGx3700T and CGx3700B Gateways offer:

  • A scalable platform for bandwidth intensive applications with support for eight downstream channels and four upstream channels
